Personal Projects
Ignition Point
One project that Konstantin has returned to time and time again is his fictional setting, “Kalea”, and story that takes place in it titled “Ignition Point”, which he’s been developing since it’s creation for his senior thesis in college. Konstantin has created concept art, full illustrations, localized lore, short stories, outlines and written comic scripts for various tales in the setting, fleshing out different cultures, locations and characters that he hopes create more completed stories for. His work on Kalea has served as a great inspiration to experiment with a variety of artistic styles and media, and he hopes to bring together his work in writing, illustration, and animation for future projects.
Illumination Exercises
Konstantin’s illustration style often varies from project to project, but he’s always seeking to better develop his understanding of light and form. As part of an exercise in silent storytelling, Konstantin created an untitled series of images following the journey of a simple character referred to as “Roam”. These illustrations explored how lighting can create mood and narrative, and by animating the various stages of the illustrations together, Konstantin was able to show the light sources changed over time and shifted the feeling of each scene.
Modern Mages
Konstantin’ fascination of magic and character design lead him to creating a series of spellcasting characters with a modern twist. While typically magic-users are shown wearing robes and other such archaic garments, Konstantin wanted to imagine a more modern day setting where magic is alive and well, and what the people of that world might look like. Konstantin believes that good character design and good world design are directly tied together, as one inextricably influences the other.
Word Snack HD
While studying at Hampshire College, Konstantin participated in a game design class tasked with creating single mobile app as a mock studio. Konstantin was “hired” to the team as a 2D artist, a role which consisted of creating concept art, designing characters, and creating various 2D assets that would appear in the final game. The final product was a sci-fi word puzzle game called “Word Snack HD”, that took place in a space diner and was populated by a cast of aliens and robots that the player would feed completed word to in order to rack up a high score. Konstantin worked on creating the initial concepts and final designs for the five playable characters, the design for space diner itself, as well as producing many of the background and UI elements that were used in the final game build.
